Domain Auctions - finding that Bargain Domain name that will earn you a profit

Domain auctions generate a lot of buzz - especially when a domain like diamonds.com goes for 7.5 million or some of the other six figure purchases. You can make a lot of money but you can also lose a lot of money if you don’t have a little experience under your belt so you can determine which domains are valuable and which are not. Although I talked about this tool to sift through the 40-50,000 domain names that drop each day to find the valuable domains you can also use it to search to find valuable and underpriced domains at several auctions. These auctions like Sedo, TDNam, NameJet are large domain name auction houses that auction only domains.

One of the auctions you might not have thought about for finding that underpriced domain names is ebay because it’s an eletronic garage sale that sells everything from socks to airplanes and doesn’t focus on domain names. But that can work to your advantage. Whereas the people that scan the domain house auction lists are pretty knowledgable about what is valuable and what is not sometimes the ebay domain seller is not and you can pick up a bargain.

The two dangers of auctions are overpaying either because you didn’t analyze the value of the domain being sold or you got caught up in a bidding war and it can be time consuming. In my next domain auction post I’ll talk about ways to eliminate these dangers and make auctions work for you.
