Making Ebay Domain Auctions Profitable

I often pick up domain name bargains on Ebay. But buying a domain name on ebay requires the same research you would do on any other domain name. What is its value – does it get traffic? Does it have page rank? How commercial is the name? The first pitfall to avoid when buying a name on ebay is avoid overpaying because you “thought” it sounded like a good name. Today the value of domain names is based on the revenue they can bring it. You can measure that value by statistics such as traffic, links, age, DNZ, TLD ext.

The second danger in domain auctions is over bidding because you got caught up in a bidding war. Sometimes in the heat of the last minutes of a highly contested auction it’s hard to resist. So do your research first. Based on your analysis and pocketbook fix a maximum amount you are willing to pay – and stick with it – don’t bid over the maximum you set. Let others get carried away, overbid, and either suffer a lose or not be able to sell it.

The best strategy for getting an auction is called sniping. Sniping is is bidding in the last minutes or seconds of the auction. If you bid in this way you won’t fall into the trap of a bid runup where you place a bid hours or days before the end of the auction, someone responds and bids higher, you place an higher bid to maintain your winning postion, other watchers of the auction see the bidding action figure this must be good jump in too and start bidding. Before you know it the bids have run up to your maximum bid and the end of the auction is still two days away

The only problem with sniping is it is time consuming if you do it manually. You have to be around your computer in the last few minutes of the auction, watch the clock and bid at the last few minutes. Well I have a solution for you that solves all three drawbacks of ebay auctions. You don’t get caught up in a bidding frenzy, you don’t have to be around the computer placing bids and counterbids in the last minutes of the auction, and you still get to use the effective Sniping strategy.

What is the answer? Use a sniping tool or a sniping service. I’ve tried several pieces of sniping software you run on your home computer. You need to have a computer that is connected to the internet all the time. With DSL that’s not a problem, however if you are using dialup I would advise you to look at the sniping service I’m going to recommend. The sniping software you use on your own machine was never very successful in winning the auctions I wanted.

I’ve had a lot of success with sniping services. Since the software is based on their server their internet connection is faster and they can wait until the last few seconds. The best of them dynamically guage network traffic and bidding action to place your bid at the last possible moment. You won’t win every auction because there will always be people willing to overbid or who are caught up in a bidding war and bid over the maximum bid you set. You may not win them all but at least you can rest easy knowing you haven’t overbid.

A bidding service is the perfect solution. You do your research, set your maximum bid in your Sniper account for that auction – and like magic your bid is placed in the last few seconds of the auction. No wasted time, no stress, no anxiety. You can be out enjoying a movie or dinner with your friends at the same time the auction is ending. When you get home, you check your panel to find you’ve won the auction or perhaps didn’t get the name. If you didn’t get it – so what – there will be plenty of auctions to choose from tomorrow, and the next day and the next. There’s a constant flow of domain names on ebay and as long as you do your research, set a max bid price and not exceed it you will be successful.

The sniping service I’ve been most successful with is Bidnapper The have a free 15 day trial so you can see it if is for you. The also have plans where you can pay by the Snipe or unlimited plans. I’m on the unlimited plan because remember you can use this for ebay auction for anything. I’ve even used it successfully to bid on a car for me and win it at a great price. It makes ebay auctions a pleasure. You don’t have to be tied to your computer at auction’s end. You don’t have to watch while the bids are run up in a bidding war that you helped start. You’ll find a sampling of eBay auctions at the end of this post or you can go to HotDotAuctions.com for a more complete listing of the best ebay domain auctions

Thanks for the post. Suprisingly I had never heard of Sniping Services before. Even though this is how I end up winning a majority of my auctions it is very time consuming.

Maybe now I wont have to do it manually.

Got something to say?
