When you are going to look for gold where would the gold panner be without his gold pan? Where would the miner be without his pick and shovel? Without the right tools you could try digging with your fingers but you will work pretty hard, your fingers will be bruised and blistered and you won’t have much to show for it.

It’s the same with domain names. You need the proper tools to find those gold nuggets hidden among all of the fools gold. If you start you career with expiring domain names there are 40,000 to 50,000 names that become available each day. You could start looking over the lists each day, but you wouldn’t get very far or found the gold before the next days list becomes available.

Why do I suggest starting with expiring domains? With expiring domains you can register a domain name for less than ten dollars. Some of them will be home runs, some of them will be profitable, and some of them won’t. There is going to be an inevitable learning process where you learn what will bring you in money and what just sounded like it would. I’d rather learn with $10 lessons than go into the auction market and pay $69 - $1,000 where again some will names will bring in money and some will lose money. I’d rather risk $10 to learn than $1,000.

Every day you’ll have 40,000 to 50,000 dropping domain names that become available for you to register. They were all someones “great idea” of what would be profitable. But for one reason or the other, not paying attention, other projects, not enought time, or unprofitable results for the current owner they didn’t renew the name. Some of those names were great ideas, dropped by the owner, picked up by a domainer and resold for a profit - sometimes a six figure profit!

There are some tools that will help you separate the gold from the rest. Some of them cost money and some of them are free. I started out with some free tools to search the expiring domain names which were much more basic than what I’m going to show you. Later I added some tools that cost some money. But that’s for later after you’ve gotten your feet wet and made some money.

Fortunately one of the best tools for ferreting out the gold from 40,000-60,000 domain names that expire everyday is free! It’s helped me to find some gems. You can set the search to just find domain names with High Page Rank, high type in traffic, Links, etc. There are about 20 different statistics you can use on you search to pinpoint the type of domain you want.
